Description
These were my handbooks during my Cub Scout years; I joined on my eighth birthday and progressed through Wolf, Bear, and Lion. Each of these books has the initials and dates that my parents, Den Mother, or Cub Master signed off on the completion of a requirement. The books were well written, full of clear illustrations and how-tos. I learned much from the experience.

Historical Context
The Wolf, Bear, and Lion Cub Scout Books were the guides for Cub Scouts. Since I was in Cub Scouts from 1950-1953, and these books were copyrighted in 1948, the content must have been well written and very age appropriate.
A unique aspect of this collection is the presence of the Lion Rank artifacts. In my era, the progression was strictly Wolf (age 8), Bear (age 9), and Lion (age 10). The Lion rank has since been retired and reintroduced in various forms, making the original books historically significant markers of the mid-20th century program. They represent the final step of the ‘Cub’ journey before crossing over to the adventures of Boy Scouting.

How I Acquired It: Received as gift during the years.
Personal Notes: From notes in the Wolf Book, my first Den Mother was Mrs. Liverton. My Lion Book indicates Mrs. McMennamin, and her name is crossed out with pencil indicating perhaps another woman. I can’t remember my Den Mothers specifically, but generally I know they were all great! I thank them for helping to form me in my early Scout years.

Markings: I printed my name in the Wolf Book, one of my parents wrote it in the Bear Book, and I wrote it in the Lion Book. Throughout each book in appropriate places, initials, signatures, and dates have been entered by parents and leaders indicating completion of requirements.
